Mrs. Lila Burden Whitfield, 82, of 2274 River Rd., Elberton, formerly of Hartwell, died Tuesday, January 01, 2008 at Nancy Hart Nursing Center, Elberton GA.

Born on August 31, 1925 in Elbert County, GA, she was the daughter of the late George E. Burden and Margie Butler Burden.She was a retired from the spinning room of Hartwell Mills, member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church & Live Wire SS Class.

Survivors include her daughter: Jan Evans and her husband Bruce of Elberton, son: Jerry Whitfield and his wife Helen of Hartwell; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.She was preceded in death by her husband: Gerald Thornton "Pete" Whitfield; a grandson: Greg Whitfield; three brothers: J. B. Burden, Howard Burden & Jack Burden and three sisters: Kate Richardson, Maude Mercer & Azalee Lunsford.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night. The family is at the home of her daughter: Jan and Bruce Evans, 2274 River Rd., Elberton GA.
