Lillian Mae Solberg Doroshenko, 92, of Hartwell, Georgia passed away peacefully Saturday evening, August 9, 2014, in Royston, Georgia.
Lillian Mae was born on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1922, in Elbow Lake, Minnesota.She was the youngestof 5 children of her parents,the late Nels and Anna Solberg. Lillian Mae graduated from Elbow Lake High School and then the National Business Training College.She went to work for the Federal Government during World War II in Sioux City, Iowa for the US Corps of Engineers and the US Air Corps.It was there that she met the love of her life,a young Corporal in the Air Corps, John Doroshenko Jr.They were married on July 19, 1947 and recently celebrated 67 years of marriage.In 1949, they moved to Miami, Florida where her 2 sons, Neil and Joel, were born and raised.She later returned to her career with the Federal Government at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Miami, retiring in 1984 as the Secretary to the Chief of Dermatology.In 1984, after she and her husband retired, they moved to their lovely lakefront home on Hartwell Lake in Georgia.Lillian Mae was always active in her service to the Lord as a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and one of her proudest accomplishments was to be one of the founding members of the Faith Lutheran Church in Hartwell. Lillian Mae enjoyed many interests and activities throughout her many years of life, including travel both in the US and abroad. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed movies and TV, and loved following her teams, the Atlanta Braves and Miami Dolphins.She conducted extensive genealogical research for the family, going back several generations, and documented it all for the generations to come.She loved looking at the water, whether it be in Hartwell Lake or at the sea shore.She even maintained her own Facebook page until her recent illness.Most of all, she cherished her time with her many friends and her loving family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Pearson, Frances Thornberg, and Irene Borgendale Hutcheon and her brother, Merwin Solberg.
She is survived by her husband,John Doroshenko Jr. of the home,2 sons Neil Doroshenko and his wife, Polly of High Point, North Carolina and Joel Doroshenko and his wife Diane of Newnan, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Krista Nance and her husband Jordan of Roanoke, Virginia, Lucas Doroshenko and his wife Ginny of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Lisa Doroshenko of Atlanta, Georgia, Justin Doroshenko of Washington DC, and Linsey Doroshenko of Newnan, Georgia; 2 great grandsons, Zachary and Henry Nance of Roanoke, Virginia and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, August 14th at Faith Lutheran Church in Hartwell, Georgia.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, Sunday School Fund, in her memory at 691 Benson St., Hartwell, GA 30643.
