Obituary

Mrs. Linda Haley Harris, 80, of Hartwell, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Born on January 12, 1944 in Royston, GA, she was the daughter of the late Joe G. Haley and Alice Lorene Walters Haley.  Mrs. Harris attended Tift College in Milledgeville and received her Masters from the University of Georgia. Linda was a retired teacher and she taught math for 36 years at both the Mt. Olivet Elementary School and Hart County Middle School, and after her retirement joined the Retired Educators Association. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Pine Tree Garden Club for 50 years where she served as a two-term president, secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian. She also served on the Azalea Board as a treasurer and on various committees, and she served on the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. board for the past several terms. Mrs. Harris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell where she had a perfect attendance record of 44 years, was an alto in the sanctuary choir, member of the Senior Adult Ministry, served on the offering counting committee, served as a deaconess, president of the Hubert Milford Sunday School class, and a member of the Motivated By Love WMU. She also was a member of Ya-Ya's Red Hat Group.

Survivors include one son: Kevin Harris of Hartwell; two daughters: Lisa Roberson of Augusta, GA, and Kara Deardorff (Clint) of Winder GA; four brothers: Larry Haley (Linda), Jerry Haley (Susan), Kenneth Haley (Margaret), Roger Haley (Shirley Kay), all of Hartwell; one sister: Peggy Tucker (William) of Hartwell; eight grandchildren: Kalynn Newman (Ian), Lindsay Wilson (Tanner), Maverick Jones, Chelsea Harris, Tyler Harris (Kaitlyn), Aubrey Deardorff, Braden Deardorff, and Hagen  Deardorff; four great-grandchildren: James Newman, and Haley, Remington, and Easton Harris; and numerous nieces & nephews also survive. Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years: Blane Harris and one great-grandson: Leo Tristan Harris.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 25, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Harris will be Friday, April 26, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hartwell with Dr. Stuart Lang and Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating.  Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Hart Co. Historic Museum & Society, 31 W. Howell St, Hartwell, GA 30643.
