Mr. Lloyd Alton Smith, age 81, of Lavonia, went to be with our Lord on October 21st 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
Born September 13, 1931, in Lavonia, he was the son of the late: Hoyt & Bessie (Pierce) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Lavonia and a local business man for the past 40 years. He was a postal worker and owner of Lavonia Tire & Recapping. He later owned and operated Smith's Egg Farm. He was a past member of the Lavonia Masonic Lodge, Woodmen of the World, and the Elk Lodge. He attended Lavonia High School and North Georgia College. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Army, where he served as a Corporal during the Korean War. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: William Leon Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Lavern Fulbright Smith; daughter and son-in-law: Karen & Dana Shirley of Hartwell; grandson Ethan Lee Shirley of Hartwell; brother-in-laws: R.C. Fulbright of NC, Mike Fulbright of Toccoa, and Jack Fulbright of Hartwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Childress and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service. At other hours the family will be at the home. Flowers are optional, or memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association.
