Mr. Louie Avery Reed, age 83, of Lavonia, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Brown Health & Rehab.
Born February 17, 1931, in Hartwell, he was the son of the late Sloan & Minnie (Majeski) Reed. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and in his career he worked as a meat cutter with a number of supermarkets last of which was Community Cash before it became Lavonia Foods. Mr. Reed was a member of Lavonia Presbyterian Church, for over 50 years, where he had served as an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Daisy Lee (Herring) Reed; son: John Reed; and grandson: Michael Reed.
He is survived by sons & daughters-in-law: Mike & Pat Reed of Canon and Don & Kim Reed of Lavonia; daughter-in-law: Patti Reed of Athens; grandchildren: Wesley Reed & Lori, Matthew Reed & Alisha, Brandon Reed, Marty Horan, Michael Horan and Maureen Summer; & a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Lavonia Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jason Clapper officiating, the body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Lavonia City Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at other times the family will be at the home. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Lavonia Presbyterian Church or Gentiva Hospice.
