Mrs. Elise Louise Shirley Burton, 96, of Race Street, Hartwell, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at Hart Care Center.

Born on October 31, 1917 in Anderson SC, she was the daughter of the late E.W. Shirley and Ophelia Williams Shirley.She was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Company and a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, where she worked with the Extension Committee and was an active member of the Senior Adult SS Class and the Happy Agers.

She is survived by her two daughters, Judy Woodard of Anderson SC and Carol (Billy) Vickers of Hartwell GA; four grandchildren, Stan (Karen) Woodard, Sheila (Dale) Holliday, Robyn (Jerry) Hairston and Suzanne (Mike) Cain; ten great-grandchildren, Stephanie Woodard, Hillary Woodard, Austin Holliday, Ashley Holliday, Sarah Ellen Cain, Will Cain, Grace Anne Cain, Mary Katherine Hairston, Hayden Hairston and Maggie Hairston also survive.Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert G. Burton; a brother, Norman Shirley; a sister, Ruby Shirley and a son-in-law, Donnie Woodard.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Doug Brown officiating.Burial in the Lavonia City Cemetery.
