Lt. Col. Aubrey Guy Torrance, US Army Ret., 84, of Hartwell, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Rainey Hospice House, Anderson SC.

Born on February 12, 1924 in Milledgeville GA, he was the son of the late Robert G. Torrance and Argeon Tanner Torrance.Lt. Col. Torrance, a WW II veteran, landed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, D-Day.While serving in the 116th Infantry, 29th Division, he received the Purple Heart and an Oak Leaf Cluster for wounds he sustained while fighting in France and Germany.He finished his US Army career serving time in the US Army Reserve and the Georgia Army National Guard, retiring as a Lt. Colonial.Lt. Col. Torrance was a retired teacher, member of the American Legion, VFW, Retired Officers Association of Georgia and was a member and deacon of the Abundant Life Baptist Church of Hartwell.

Survivors include his daughters: Cynthia T. Stewart and her Steve of Anderson SC and Neva T. Howell and her husband John of Marietta; a grandson: Aubrey Stewart and his wife Fara of Inman SC; a granddaughter: Brandy Howell of Atlanta and great-granddaughters: Katie and Caroline Stewart of Inman SC.Lt. Col. Torrance was preceded in death by his parents; wife: LaNeve Power Torrance and a brother: Robert W. Torrance.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Ken Brewer officiating.Burial will be at the Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
