Mrs. Sarah Lucille Murphy, age 98, of Carnesville, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at her home following an extended illness.
Born October 13, 1915, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ida (Bryant) Whitfield. She retired from Carwood Manufacturing as a seamstress. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Carnesville Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Murphy; brother: Thomas Whitfield; and sister: Mildred Brawner
She is survived by her sons: Darby Murphy, Charles Murphy, and J. P. Murphy; daughters: Doris Wooten, Sara Johnson, Evelyn Eavenson, Mary Ann Bobbitt, Betty Eavenson, and Linda Goebel; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. .
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. David Whitfield officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of Mary Ann & Gary Bobbitt.
