Mrs. Madeline Vickery Carlton, 79, of 1051 Airline Store Rd, Bowersville, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born May 2, 1930 in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Clark Vickery and Susie Foster Vickery. She was retired from Dunlop and a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by: son, Tommy Carlton of Martin, Ga., daughters, Brenda Garner of Anderson, S.C., Carol Beggs of Canon, Ga., Dianne Fleming of Rockingham, N.C., brother, Rudolph Vickery of Bowersville, Ga., sisters, Helen Evans of Royston, Ga., and Shirley Knapp of Columbus, OH. Seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, John Holbrook and second husband Harold Carlton and by brothers, James Alton Vickery, Alvin Vickery and John Edwin Vickery.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. from the Cross Roads Baptist Church. Rev. Ben Coleman and Rev. Connie Mack Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at 3:30 p.m.
