Mrs. Mae Bell Smith Dutton Pless, 78, 106 West Franklin Place, Hartwell, died Sunday, December 17 at Doctors Hospital, Augusta GA.

Born on May 9, 1928 in Anderson Co. SC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Smith and Janie Thomas Smith.She was a homemaker and a member of the Burdine Road Church of God, Anderson SC.

Survivors include two daughters: Ruth Gilliam of Anderson SC and Sara Rousey of Hartwell; a sister: Jessie Mackey of Lancaster SC; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and a great great-grandchild also survives.She was preceded in death first husband: Fletcher Dutton and by her second husband: Oscar Pless; two sons: Leroy Dutton and Thomas Dutton; five brothers: Charles Smith, Bill Smith, Matthew Smith, Alonzo Smith and Rufus "Doc" Smith and three sisters: Rosie Smith, Mary Lou Dutton and Ethel Boarders.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Curtis Lanier and Rev. Tim Adams officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home – Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night.The family is at the home of a daughter: Sara and Wendall Rousey, 91 Green Meadows Dr., Hartwell.
