Marcella passed away peacefully at The Rainey Hospice House January 21, 2021 following a long battle with Vascular Dementia. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Meredith Jordan and Geraldine Chitwood Jordan Austin and step-daughter of William C. "Bill" Austin Sr.
Born in Lavonia GA, she grew up in Calhoun Fall SC and attended Calhoun Falls High School through the 11th grade. Her family moved to Hartwell, Ga after the death of her father and she graduated from Hart County High School. After graduation she met the love of her life, Douglas "Doug" William Brown. They were married for 50 years until his death in November, 2013.
Marcella grew up in The Mt. Olivet Church of God where she worked and served The Lord for many years until she moved to Anderson, SC.
Marcella was the first graduate of Tri-County Technology College's School of Nursing. She earned her RN degree and truly loved her calling to the nursing profession. Her patients were always so very important to her and gave her much personal gratification. She worked for AnMed Hospital in many different areas. She received a psychiatric nursing accreditation and worked as a nurse in the Patrick Harris Hospital for many years, as well. Marcella retired from Greenville Hospital Systems where she worked in the Internal Medicine Clinic.
Marcella enjoyed all types of crafts; sewing, painting knitting and especially quilting. She loved to give away her special quilts to her family.
She is survived by her sisters Regina Jordan Alexander of Hartwell, Ga. and Dannis Jordan Cox and her husband Thomas Cox of Anderson, SC. In addition, she is survived by a nephew, Neil Alexander of Hartwell; her niece, Meredith Dyar Dickens (Donal) of Anderson, SC; five nieces & nephews: Amelia Hill , Daniel Alexander, Makala Vickery (Hunter), Corbett McClure and Madeline McClure; and three great nieces & nephews: Garrison Vickery, Kamden Vickery, and Waylon Vickery.
She also leaves behind many cousins and special friends, one of her longest friendships of 71 years, Patricia Bettis of Calhoun Falls, SC.
The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.
It was Marcella's wishes to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.
