Mrs. Marie Walden O'Barr, age 96, of Lavonia, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at her home following an extended illness.
Born October 27, 1921, in Emmanuel County, she was the daughter of the late Seth Watson Walden and Ruby Henry Walden. Prior to retirement she worked as a bailiff for Franklin County Superior Court. Mrs. O'Barr was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: George Robert O'Barr; son: William "Bill" O'Barr; brothers: G. W. Walden and Roy Walden; and sisters: Mildred Hooks, Annie Lee Hutchenson, Josephine Darty, Yvonne Mills, and Doris Boatright.
She is survived by her son: Robert "Bob" O'Barr; grandchildren: Christopher O'Barr and wife, Monica, Heather O'Barr, and Emily Blakely; great-grandchildren: Chance O'Barr, Anna Kinney, Seth O'Barr, Pearl Lyons, Jax Richardson, and Evie Richardson; brother: Bobby Walden; sisters: Bonnie Mosley, Shirley Hollis, Jackie Prather, and Gay Tuberville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or donations can be made to the Lavonia United Methodist Church, 25 Baker Street, Lavonia, GA 30553 or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, P.O.
