Mrs. Marilyn Morgan Simmons, 65, of Vickery Street, Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at AnMed Health Medical Center, Anderson SC.

Born on February 13, 1953 in Chattanooga TN, she was the daughter of the late Willie Clay Morgan and Myra Ruth Rothwell Morgan.Mrs. Simmons graduated from Toccoa Falls College with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and the University of Alabama, where she received her Masters in Special Education.She worked for Hart Co. School System, Calvary Christian School, Oneonta City Schools, Blount Co. Schools and retired from the Franklin Co. School System for a total of 32 years of teaching.Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Hartwell Alliance Church and the former pianist.

Survivors include her husband: Rev. Edwin "Eddie" Simmons; her son: Stephen Simmons and his wife Julianna of Hartwell; a grandchild: Morgan Simmons and a sister: Debbie Sterchi and Lebron of Ooltewah TN, also several aunts and cousins.Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Carolyn Bacon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. John Silver and Dr. Michael Noel officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday night. The family will be at the home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hart Interdenominational Ministries, P.O. Box 21, Hartwell, GA 30643.
