Obituary

Mrs. Marion E. Mead, 75, of Bowersville, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 2, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 13th, 1948, in Norwalk CT, she was the daughter of the late Harold Smith and Hazel Ferris Smith. Marion retired from the Public Works Department in 2003 where she served as an Administrative Assistant for the town of Newtown, CT. Marion was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Columbiettes Auxiliary #9915 and also assisted with the Knights of Columbus activities as well. Marion was many things to many people, but most notable she was a loving wife, devoted mother, and doting grandmother.  Nothing brought her more joy than sitting and hearing about everyone's hectic lives.  She loved to laugh with those around her and enjoyed sharing stories about her amazing life.  She loved to sing and dance, decorate cookies with her grandchildren and go on ice cream adventures with her 2 youngest granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years: John S. Mead; four sons: Jim Mead (Missy) of Mt. Holly, NJ, Dave Mead (Kim) & Wayne Mead (Laura) all of Bowersville and Ray Mead (Jackie) of Alexandria, KY; a brother: Harvey Smith of Norwalk, CT; two sisters: Jane Lemmon of Monroe, NC and Carolyn Byxbee of Bantam, CT; seven grandchildren also survive.  Marion was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Robert "Chopper" Smith.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with a Rosary service starting at 5:30 p.m.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marion Mead will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.  Mrs. Mead will be cremated following her Mass and her ashes will be placed in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Memorial Garden.
