Mrs. Marlene Fleming Whitmire, 79, of Eagle Grove Road, Bowman, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late John Wabus Fleming and Frances Strickland Fleming.She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a retired nurse for Drs. Johnson, Arnold, Campbell & Burrell.Mrs. Whitmire was a member of the Nancy Hart Order Eastern Star #398, and of Bowman Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons: Tommy Whitmire and his wife Robbie of Bowman, Ronny Whitmire and his wife Marianne of Elberton, and John Whitmire of Canon; one brother, Jerry Fleming of Dewy Rose; five grandchildren: Chris, Chad, Wendy, Kelly, and Wes; nine great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Olivia, Landon, Annaleigh, Madelyn, Brenna, Lacie, Trevor and Wyatt.Mrs. Whitmire was preceded in death by her husband John Byron Whitmire; and a grandchild, Brad Whitmire.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Mike Petty officiating.Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman.

The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family is at the home.
