Martha Louise Allison Melton, 75, of Conyers, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 , after a massive stroke on January 5. A native of Lavonia, Mrs. Melton was born September 15, 1942, the daughter of the late Thomas Autrey and Louise Vandiver Allison. A nationally certified piano teacher and adjudicator with a B.A. in music, she taught for more than 54 years and served various churches as organist and choir director. She loved music, teaching, and her students, and had an active studio until the end.
She is survived by her husband: Wayne C. Melton of Conyers; son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Roy and Julie Melton of Rochester, NY; daughter: Allison Melton and grandpup "Speckles" of Smyrna; and students too numerous to name that she cared for and mentored with patience and grace.
The funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Ryan Melton officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service.
In addition to the funeral and graveside services this Sunday, there will be a memorial service with special music and a time of remembrance to honor and celebrate the life of Martha L. Allison Melton at Decatur Presbyterian Church (in Decatur, GA) on February 17–service at 2pm with music beginning at 1:30pm.
