Mrs. Martha Pinson Cheek, age 91, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007.
Born, February 1, 1916, in Sylvester, GA, she was the daughter of the late Albert H. & Minnie (Hiers) Pinson. She was a graduate of GSCW and a homemaker. She was the first woman to be elected to the Lavonia City Council, and was a member of the Lavonia Woman's Club, the Lavonia Garden Club, and the Thursday Bridge Club. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and an active member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; two husbands: John M. Hall, Sr. and Daniel W. Cheek; son: John Hall; sisters: Vivian Haas and Mary Nell Pinson; and brother: A.H. "Bud" Pinson, Jr.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law: Andrea & Mike Frosolono; daughter-in-law: Joyce Smith Hamilton; grandchildren: Anne Bowry, Christina Sell, John Andrew "Andy" Hall, and Courtney Hall Poole; great-grandchildren: Ansley Grace Poole and Adam Hall Poole; and nephew: Jim Pinson.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2007 at the Lavonia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom McElroy officiating. Mrs. Cheek will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will be at the home of Mike & Andrea Frosolono, 197 Rue Chalet – Lavonia, and will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lavonia United Methodist Church Building Fund, 25 Baker Street, Lavonia, GA 30553.
