Martha Purgason Coggin, 90, of Canon, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Athens Regional Medical Center in the care of Gentiva Hospice.

Born on November 19, 1925 in Atlanta, GA and raised in Elberton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. Coggin, Sr. and Martha Purgason Coggin. She attended Elbert County High School and GA Women's College. Miss Coggin was retired from the University of Georgia in the Psychology Department.She also was a member of the Hartwell First Baptist Church and former member of the Hartwell Pilot Club, Hart County Chapter AARP, a Hart County Literacy volunteer and the Dairy Queen Coffee Club.

Survivors include her sister-in-law: Kitty Coggin; one nephew: Tim Coggin; one niece: Pam Fleming (Bobby); two great-nephews: Brian Fleming (Nicole), Christopher Coggin; two great-nieces: Christie Simpson (Kelvin), Katie Coggin and five great-great nieces and nephews also survive.Martha was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Charles O. "Bucky" Coggin, Jr. and one great-nephew: Jonathon Coggin.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 5, 2016, 4:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Carter Tucker and Mr. Bill Chafin officiating.Burial will be in the Forest Hills Memorial Park in Elberton, GA.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.The family is at the home of Kitty Coggin.Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the Pilot Club of Hartwell Friendship House, P.O.
