Obituary

Mrs. Martha Reid Evans Scott, 83, of 731 Benson Street, Hartwell, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Hart Care Center.

Born on November 20, 1927 in Elberton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. Reid and Wordley Lawrence Reid.She was a retired seamstress for the Hartwell Company and a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: James Coconut Evans and his wife, Theresa, of Elberton, and Tim Evans and his wife, Leisa, of Hartwell; one daughter: Jean Gaines and her husband, Bobby, of Canon; two brothers: Allen Reid of Raleigh, NC, and Bill Charpin of Durham, NC; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: first husband, James Otis Evans, and second husband, Turner Scott; one brother: Ronnie Reid; one sister: Margaret Charpin; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Steve Patton and Rev. Tommy Cleveland officiating.Burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.Floral arrangements are optional and memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
