Mr. Marty Dale Chappelear, age 38, of Lavonia, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center, following a courageous battle with melanoma cancer.
Born April 30, 1975, in Seneca, SC, he was the son of Roger Dale Chappelear and Janice (Walters) Chappelear. He was a salesman for Royston Rentals and was a member of Christ Fellowship in Toccoa. Mr. Chappelear was an avid softball player.
He is survived by his parents: Janice (Walters) Chappelear and Roger Dale & Tammie Chappelear; wife: Tammy (Freeman) Chappelear; stepchildren: William Freeman, III & Michael Freeman; siblings: Chris Chappelear & Morgan Chappelear Floyd; nephews: Butch Chappelear, Levi Chappelear, Bryson Chappelear, Cayden Chappelear & Logan Thompson, nieces: Paisley Floyd & Eleanor Floyd; and his beloved pet Roscoe Chappelear.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Scott Collett officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The BCI Dragons Softball Team will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other times the families will be at their respective homes. Flowers are optional or donations may be made to help cover funeral cost.
