Mrs. Mary L. Alewine Powers, age 94, of 145 Gumlog Road, Lavonia died April 18, 2007, at her residence.
Born in Oconee County, SC, she was a daughter of the late O.T. Alewine and Lettie Madden Alewine. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by son Roger Powers and his wife Becky of Lavonia; daughters: Bonnie Chitwood and her husband James of Lavonia, Mary Nell Batson and her husband Marvin of Toccoa, and Pauline Brady of Lavonia; sister: Florence Hudson; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great-greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband: Jeff Powers, son: Charles Powers; brothers: Fred Alewine, Johnny Alewine and Harold Alewine two sisters: Myrtie Phillips and Vassie Rowland, and grand daughter: Deborah Fleming.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Adams, Joe Black and Mike Smith will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family is at their respective homes.
