Mrs. Mary Yawn Gray, 97, of Oak Crest Drive, Hartwell, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Hart Care Center.
Born on September 30, 1920 in Milan, GA, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Yawn and Annie Dowdy Yawn.Mrs. Gray was a retired seamstress for Gip's and a machine operator for Monroe Auto Equipment Co. She was also a member of the Reed Creek Baptist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Nancy Hart Chapter # 398, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons: Sam Gray and Hugh Gray, Jr. both of Hartwell; one daughter: Margaret Crossley of Hartwell; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Hubert M. "Hugh" Gray Sr; a son; Joe Gray and a daughter; Christine Campbell; six brothers: TD, William Henry, Beverly, JT, Spurgeon, and Sam Yawn; six sisters: Maddie Parker, Lola Smith, Dorothy Mae Boyer, Pauline Smith, Ida Williams, Sally Johnson; and one grandchild: Ricky Stamps.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Frankie Gray, Rodney Crossley, and Dr. Jason Gray officiating.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.The family will be at their respective homes.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nancy Hart Chapter # 398, Order of the Eastern Star, P.O. Box 373, Hartwell, GA 30643.
