Mary Kidd Jackson, age 80, passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2024, at Hart Health and Rehab in Hartwell, GA.
Mary was born on August 25th, 1943, in Gadsden, Alabama, to the late Charles B. & Mary Eleanor Kidd of Hartwell, Ga. She was a 1961 graduate of Hart County High School and a 1965 graduate of The University of Alabama and a member Pi Beta Phi sorority. After living and working in Mobile, AL, for ten years, she returned to Hartwell to live, work and raise her family. She retired from a career in Northeast Georgia as a Registered Dietician and Diabetes Educator. Mary was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hartwell and Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, NC. She served the Episcopal Church as a member of the Daughters of the King and Stephen Ministry.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, E. Allen Jackson; two sons, Carey (Allison) Jackson and Gregg (Shelley) Jackson of Hartwell; and daughter Jennifer (Mike) Patterson of Anderson, SC and one brother, C. William Kidd of Hartwell; four grandchildren: Aaron Jackson, Jack Patterson, Mary Elizabeth Jackson, and Catherine Jackson, and one great-grandson, Connor Jackson.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Charles B. & Mary Eleanor Kidd of Hartwell, and a brother, John Carey Kidd of Atlanta, GA.
Mary is cherished and remembered for her smile, genuine and sweet disposition, and love of family, friends, and adventure. She enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors. Some of her favorite activities included; hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, bicycling across Georgia, sailing on Lake Hartwell and Mobile Bay, riding in Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Muses, traveling abroad, and tending a wide assortment of mountain foliage around her home in Sky Valley, GA where she and Allen maintained a residence since 1996. They enjoyed their time in Sky Valley exploring the mountains while entertaining family and friends.
The family would like to thank Debra Rousey, Carolyn Morris, Sally Wilson, Shirley Evans, and Michelle Jones for their kindness, friendship, and loving care of Mary through the years.
Funeral services will be held at St Andrew's Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 13th, at 11 am, followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 479 Fairview Ave. Hartwell, GA 30643 or the Alzheimer Association of America.
The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
