Mrs. Mary Thornton McCurley, 102, of Stephen Johnson Road, Hartwell, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born on August 3, 1912 in Elberton, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Thornton and Lizzie Carroll Thornton.She was a homemaker, former nursing aide and a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church where she was the oldest member.Mrs. McCurley also was a member of the Eliza Cobb Sunday School Class and the Happy Agers.
Survivors include: one son: Larry T. McCurley and Dale of Madison, GA; three daughters: Barbara Crump of Athens, Pat Crump of Chattanooga, TN and Carolyn Johnson and Stephen of Hartwell; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren and one sister: Lucy Gilman of Atlanta also survive.Mrs. McCurley was preceded in death by her husband James Albert McCurley and one grandson: Dwain Crump.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Mike Bearden officiating.Burial in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday, 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.
