Mrs. Mary Evelyn Durham Mitchell, 88, of Anderson, SC, formerly of Royston, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born on August 19, 1928 in Homer, GA, she was the daughter of the late William F. Durham and Merle Ayers Durham.Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and a member of the Starr Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, singing, and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include one daughter: Shirley Stanley of Anderson, SC; two brothers: Max Durham of Cornelia, GA, Dwight Durham of Carrollton, GA; one sister: Celeste Wilson of Thomasville, GA; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Edd Mitchell; one son: Teddy Wayne Mitchell; one daughter: Gloria June Hart; three brothers: J.D. Durham, Jack Durham, Clinton Durham and four sisters: Joyce Barrett, Willene Osborn, Annelle Durham and Majell Halford.

Funeral services will held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Chris Pritchett and Mr. Brett Carey officiating.Burial will be in the Iva City Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.
