Mrs. Mary "Jim" Shaw Tate, 86, of 545 E. Howell St, Hartwell GA, died Monday, December 01, 2008 at Hart County Hospital.

Born on March 10, 1922 in Vanna Community of Hart Co. GA, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Lola Prather Shaw.

Mrs. Tate lived in Charlotte NC for many years.She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Carolina Golf and Country Club, The Ladies Golf Association and the Ladies Shrine Patrol Bridge Club.

Mrs. Tate and her husband moved to North Myrtle Beach SC in 1976.She loved living at the beach, where she played golf and was very active in her church, King of Glory Lutheran Church.She was a member of the Windy Hill Garden Club and served on the Board of Planning and Zoning for the City of North Myrtle Beach SC.

Mrs. Tate and her husband moved to Hartwell GA in 1992.They loved being in Hartwell near her family and friends, enjoyed traveling all over the world.She loved working in her flower gardens and helping other people.Mrs. Tate is a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and a former member of the Hartwell Garden Club.She had a great journey through life.

She is survived by her husband and best friend, Robert "Bud" Tate Jr. of the home; a sister, Dean Adams of Hartwell; a brother, Hugh Shaw and his wife Janice of Camp Springs MD; a sister-in-law, Betty Shaw of Hartwell and by several nieces and nephews.Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Shaw and Boyd Shaw and two sisters, Edna Phillips and Arleen Starrett.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 3 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Eddie Adams officiating.Burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Rev. Dean Kring officiating.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night.The family is at the home.Flowers optional, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 691 Benson St, Hartwell GA30643.
