Obituary

Mrs. Marylou Burleson Sauer went home to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Hartwell GA.

Born on June 18, 1935 in Liberty Hill, TX, Marylou was the daughter of the late Rufus Hill Burleson and Bessie Eunice Garner Burleson.She was a graduate of Port Lavaca High School and the Seton School of Nursing.In 1956, Marylou married Vernon Benjamin Sauer and over the years were devoted to each other, to their children, and later to their grandchildren.Moving with Vernon's work, they lived in several different cities before making their permanent home in Stone Mountain GA then Hartwell.Marylou worked as a Registered Nurse and later enjoyed her work as a substitute teacher.She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Daughters of the American Revolution.She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, where she organized blood drives, Wednesday night suppers and meal deliveries to the home-bound members and the Bell Family YMCA.

Marylou is survived by her husband of 63 years: Vernon Sauer; three children: R.D. Sauer (Susan), Nancy S. Callaway (David) and John Sauer (Gerri); a sister: Marjorie Burleson Wigley Forster; sister-in-law: Evelyn S. Burleson; six grandchildren: Jennifer Sauer, Taylor Callaway (Dasha), Caitlin Callaway, Tanner Grimes (Brent), Matt VanDivner (April) and Emily Sauer; three great-grandchildren: Caleb Grimes, Layla Grimes and Ezra VanDivner several nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service celebrating Marylou's life will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hartwell with Dr. F. Hugh Kirby and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, 81 E. Howell St., Hartwell GA 30643 or Bell Family YMCA, 281 Opal Ext, Hartwell, GA 30643 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta GA 30346.
