Mrs. Mattie Ruth Owens Sanders, 89, of Vickery Street, Hartwell, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at her home.

Born on April 5, 1928 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late Tom Owens and Nina Cleveland Owens.Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker and a member of the Milltown Baptist Church.

Survivors include her two sons: Alton Sanders, Thomas Sanders and his wife Debbie all of Hartwell; three daughters: Joyce Vickery and her husband Tommy of Rex, GA, Janie Blackmon of Canon, Judy King of Hartwell; a sister: Annie Dale Dyar of Hartwell ; thirteen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Fred Sanders; one grandson: Randall Schultz; son-in-law: Jim Blackmon; four brothers, Fred Owens, Frank Owens, Arnold Owens, James Waymon Owens; three sisters: Lizzie Mae Saylors, Ruby Dickson, and Johnnie Sue Owens.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.The family is at the home.
