Maurice Lee Buffington, age 70, of Lavonia, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Stephens County Hospital.
Born September 20, 1951, in Stephens County, he was the son of the late Sam H. and Bonnie "Big Mama" Adams Buffington. He owned and operated Buffington Tire and was a U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer. He retired from the Lavonia Fire Department after more than twenty-two years of service. He was a faithful Christian man, who believed in Bible reading and prayer. He lived out his faith by serving others and led many mission trips to Mexico. He was a member of Bethel Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Tommy Buffington and sister: Doris Herring.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon Carter Buffington; children: Frankie & Carla Buffington, Jennifer Buffington, Daniel & Amber Buffington, Stacy Buffington Bennett, Jonathan White, and Jordan White; grandchildren: Carlaita Woodberry, Chris Buffington, Brandon Buffington, Cody Buffington, Michael Buffington, Chloe Bennett, Caitlin Buffington, Parker Bennett, and Reagan Buffington; and great-grandchildren: Kendal White, Ny'rai Woodberry, Patience White, Evee Buffington, and Ben Buffington.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Lavonia Church of God with Rev. Gettis Allen, Rev. Jeff Carter, and Rev. Lonnie Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The Lavonia Fire Department will serve as pallbearers and honorary escort. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
