Maurice Lane Floyd, age 77, of Lavonia, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 4, 1946, in Lavonia, the son of the late O. Z. and Annie Belle (Pitts) Floyd. Mr. Floyd graduated from Lavonia High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid fisherman and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mr. Floyd loved to spend time with his friends and family, especially when he could cook and entertain.

He is survived by his companion: Sherri Moore; sister: Anita Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Wanda Blakely Floyd; sisters: Barbara McMahon, Joan Sims, and Brenda Brawner; and brothers: Aaron Floyd, Ancel Floyd, Wesley Floyd, Shelton Floyd, and Tony Floyd.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia. Entombment will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until the service. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
