Max Leon Alewine, age 85, of Commerce got his wings on Saturday, October 8, 2016 and went to be with his Heavenly Father.
Born July 1st, 1931, in Toccoa, he was the son of the late Claude B. Alewine and Nobie Weaver Alewine. Max grew up on a farm in Hartwell, He was a veteran of the US Air Force, where he attained the rank of Staff Sgt. and was an instructor supervisor from 1951 to 1959. Mr. Alewine worked and retired from General Motors Doraville Plants Maintenance Supervisor after thirty-two years of service. After retirement, he purchased a small farm in Lavonia and lived the life of a farmer. He was a member of Redeemed Baptist Church in Commerce and dearly loved his church family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Juanita Head Alewine in 2009; brothers: Oren Alewine, Willie Alewine; and Lucius Alewine.
Survivors include his wife Helen Alewine of Commerce; son and daughter-in-law: Gregory and Michele Alewine of Madisonville, TN; granddaughter: Jessica Alewine of Lawrenceville; brothers: James Alewine of Hartwell, C.B. Alewine & Jimmie of Lavonia, and Charles Alewine of Harvey, LA; sister: Julia Herring & Billy of Bowersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 Redeemed Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Parks officiating. Entombment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens. He will lie in state at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Redeemed Baptist church Building Fund, c/o Vicki Cotton, P.O. Box 1113, Commerce, GA 30529.
