Mr. Max Kendall Martin, 87, of the Airline Community, Hartwell, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at his home.

Born on October 18, 1936 in Hart County, GA, he was the son of the late James Inman Martin and Helen Adams Martin. He was a faithful member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church. Max farmed his family's dairy after serving in the United States Navy, and earning his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Georgia. He achieved many awards throughout his life, one of which was the Millard Seaton Award for truly exemplifying the conservation of soil and water. Max was a special steward of the land by conservation, tillage, terraces, trees planted, and many ponds on the farm. He truly gave his life to protecting soil and water, and making sure nature's balance was maintained.

Survivors include his wife: Rebecca Ferguson Martin of the home; three children: Sharon Ankerich (Scott) of Hartwell, Marcia Muckenfuss (Chris) of Summerville, SC, and Jason Martin (Amy) of Bowersville; sister: Nancy Cable (Hardy) of Bowersville; sixteen grandchildren: Savannah Dove (Josh), Jessica Verdin, Amelia Fleeman (Logan), Rosemary Frey (Hayden), Rebecca Muckenfuss, Samuel Muckenfuss, Ella Kate Ankerich, Shaylee Joy Ankerich, Payne Curtis Ankerich, Max Martin, William Perry Ankerich, Evie Claire Ankerich, Holly Mei Ankerich, Adelyn Martin, Calla Anne Ankerich, and Slate Martin; and seven great-grandchildren: Benjamin Curtis Dove, Marshall Dove, Brooklynn Verdin, Kendall Verdin, Scottie Fleeman, Lennox Fleeman, and Leighton Frey. Mr. Martin is preceded in death by his parents; son: John Martin; and brothers: Marshall & Grant Martin.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
