Mr. Max Whitfield, age 81, of Lavonia, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at AnMed Health in Anderson.
Born April 9, 1940, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Edgar and Mary (Collier) Whitfield. He retired from the Milliken Company, where he worked as a supervisor at the Alan B. Sibley Mill. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Whitfield was an avid fan of NASCAR and especially Dale Earnhardt. He will be remembered as a hard-working man that loved everyone and the Best Papa Ever.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Gloria (Harris) Whitfield; daughters & sons-in-law: Tammy & Grady Cole, Shelia & Carter Chitwood, and Crystal & Jason Cawthon; granddaughters: Lasha Chitwood, Kassidy Bradley, Brandi Glass, Lindsey Cureton, Kaylee Cawthon, Miley Cawthon, and Callie Cawthon; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters: Helen Gibby, Ann Whitfield, Linda Hall, and Betty Alderman; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Dot Whitfield and Dessie Mae Brown; and brothers: Cecil Whitfield and Bud Whitfield.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2022 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Tee Singleton officiating. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the service. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Chris Carter, Jason Cawthon, Grady Cole, Tim Cureton, Curtis Glass, Robin Lock.
