Maxine Berryman McMurry, 77, of Lavonia, Georgia passed away January 13, 2015 at her residence.She was born September 23, 1937 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia to the late Louise Algood Berryman and Joseph Welthy Berryman.
She worked in the Athletic Department of the University of Georgia before she became a homemaker, mother, and caregiver. She was an active member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church and kept the nursery for many years. She had a charitable heart often anonymously helping school children in need of adequate clothing. Maxine enjoyed cooking, being outside, walking and being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Robert "Bob" McMurry, daughter and son in law, Nancy and Ted Uiterwyk of Dunwoody, Georgia and son and daughter in law, Russell and Michelle McMurry of Buford, Georgia.Grandchildren are Caroline Watson, John Belton Watson, Jackson Watson, Zacharey McMurry, Nicholas McMurry and Andrew McMurry.
She is also survived by brothers and sisters, Harlan Berryman of Columbus, Ga., Marilyn Heard of Elberton, GA, Faine Berryman of Elberton, GA, Wendall Berryman of Elberton, GA, Beth Vaughter of Elberton, GA, Joy Jordan of Royston, GA and thirteen nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her brother in law William Barnes of Statesboro, GA, and niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Lavonia United Methodist Church with Rev. Randall Massengill officiating. Burial will follow in the Burgess-Lavonia City Cemetery.
