Mel Loyd

Mr. Melvin Morris Loyd, 91, of Hartwell, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at his home.

Born on March 14, 1935, in Lily, KY, he was the son of the late Jame Loyd and Retha Lawson Loyd. Mr. Loyd was a train engineer for Conrail, and a member of the Reed Creek Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Mel was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of the Hartwell Golf Club. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

Survivors include his son: Mike Loyd of Rose Hill, KS; daughter: Michele Pokora (Ed) of Middletown, OH; one brother: Jimmy Loyd; two sisters: Billie Richardson, Georgetta Hoepker and four grandchildren & ten great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Ann Denney Loyd; and daughter-in-law: Cynthia Loyd.

Graveside services for Mr. Mel Loyd will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 in the Arlington Memorial Park in Cincinnati, OH.

The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is assisting the family with local arrangements.
