Mr. Melvin Luther Propes, 69, of 3280 Cokesbury Hwy. Hartwell, died peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2013 at his home.

Born on March 11, 1944 in Iva SC, he was the son of the late Fred Jackson Propes and Gertie Corn Propes. He worked as a scrap metal recycler and was a member of the River of Life Church.

Survivors include his wife: Linda Gaines Propes; one son: Samuel Melvin Propes and his wife Vicky of Hartwell; four daughters: Sherry Brown and her husband Nick of Hartwell, Sharon Kennedy and her husband Donald of Hamptonville, NC, Sheba Carey and her husband Jeff of Hartwell, and Sandra Ayers and her husband Ben of Danielsville; one brother: Raul Propes of Elberton, one sister: Gertie Shaver of Elberton; eleven grandchildren also survive. Mr. Propes was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the River of Life Church with Rev. Ken Buffington and Rev. John Tipton officiating.Burial will be in the Gaines Chapel Holiness Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.The family is at the home.
