Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Johnson Gaines, 92, of the Rock Branch community of Elberton passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 in Atlanta, GA.

Born November 26, 1921 in Hamburg, Arkansas; Mrs. Gaines was the daughter of the late William Johnson and Fannie Hayden Johnson. She was a homemaker and very active in her community. Her family and friends remember her as social, creative, compassionate, witty, and generous. Mrs. Gaines was a member of the Rock Branch Baptist Church. She, her husband, and children have lived in Charlotte, NC; Memphis, TN; and Nashville, TN. She lived most recently at Magnolia Estates in Elberton.

Mrs. Gaines is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Sandra J. Gaines; her husband, Thomas O. Gaines; three brothers, William, Horace, and Hubert; and three sisters, Margaret, Jewell, and Lena.

Mrs. Gaines is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Shelley and Carl Merideth of Alpharetta, GA and Bonnie and Robert Derisley of Franklin, TN.Four grandchildren also survive her; Jonathan Merideth and his wife Kayla, Jordan Merideth, Brooks Derisley, and Alana Derisley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Wright and Rev. Ed Sayer officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Rock Branch Baptist Church Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
