Miss Mildred Ray, 108, formerly of Cleveland Ave., Hartwell, passed away Sunday April 23, 2017 at The Gables at Cobb Village in Royston.
Born on April 5, 1909 inElberton,GA, she was the daughter of the late James Albert Ray and Essie Adams Ray. She was a graduate from the University of Georgia with an A.B.S. degree in Home Economics and she was the oldest living graduate of that degree program.Miss Ray was a retired social worker from Georgia State Department of Family & Children Services. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, Ruth Sunday School Class, WMU, Fellowship of Christian Seniors and director/worker with the Extension Department.
She also was member of the Hart Co. Retired Teachers Association where she taught school, was a dietician and a lunchroom supervisor. She taught an Adult Homemaking program at the North Georgia Trade and Vocational School in Clarkesville, GA. She served as a home supervisor with the Farmers Home Administration in Walton and Newton counties.
Survivors include three nephews:Keith Ray (Miriam) of Bishop, Ga, Jim Ray (Debbie) of Hartwell, Allen Ray (Margie) of Atlanta; four nieces: Ann H. Jones of Duluth, GA, Patsy R. Robertson of Hartwell, Donna R. Glosson (Dave) of Suwanee, GA and Brenda R. Harris (James) of Peachtree City, GA; one sister-in-law: Grace W. Ray of Buford, GA. Miss Ray was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: William Ray, Clinton Ray, Emerson Ray, Ralph Ray, Luther Ray and two sisters: Lorene Ray Haynie and Ethel Ray.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. Steve Albanese, Rev. Carter Tucker and Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, 81 E. Howell St., Hartwell, GA 30643 or to the charity of one's choice.
