Mrs. Nell Blackmon Strickland, 95, of Second Street, Hartwell, passed away peacefully on her birthday Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Brookdale of Hartwell.
Born on August 21, 1927 in Chattanooga, TN, she was the daughter of the late Ossie E. Blackmon and Myrtie Bailey Blackmon. Mrs. Strickland was a former bookkeeper for Chapman Body Shop and a Para-pro at Hartwell Elementary. In 1975, Nell helped her husband Joe found and establish Strickland Funeral Home, and she went on to become a fully licensed funeral director in 1979. Nell was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School class and was a choir member for 60 years. She was also a member of the Nancy Hart Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Arnold Strickland and his wife Tammy of Hartwell; two grandchildren she adored, Abbie S. Jackson and her husband Jamie of Roswell and Matthew A. Strickland of Hartwell; one great grandchild she fell instantly in love with, Logan L. Jackson; her beloved "grand-dog", Brody Strickland; and her extended family and caregivers, Cricket & Larry Sanders of Hartwell and the staff of the Strickland Funeral Home. Mrs. Strickland is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Joseph A. "Joe" Strickland; and one brother, Ed Blackmon.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. and following the service at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nell Strickland will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. Hugh Kirby and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating with a committal in the chapel. She will be buried beside her beloved husband at Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The family of Mrs. Nell Strickland would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Brookdale of Hartwell who were very understanding and took great care of Mrs. Nell in her final months and days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, 81 E. Howell St, Hartwell, GA 30643.
The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
