Mrs. Nellie Black Chitwood, age 95, of Martin, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born November 1, 1924, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Azalee Teat Black. She retired as a timekeeper from Coats & Clark after more than forty years of service. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she attended the Sanctuary Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and David Thurman of Martin; brother-in-law: L.G. Bond of Toccoa; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Roscoe Chitwood; brother: Sammy Black; and sister: Maderia Holcomb.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Josh Harvill officiating. Burial will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1333 Pleasant Hill Road, Martin, GA 30557.
