Mrs. Nellie Johnson Rice, 92, of Brown Street, Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Hart Care Center.

Born on February 7, 1925 in Elberton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Johnson and Alma Dunbar Johnson.Mrs. Rice was a retired LPN from Elbert Memorial Hospital and a former Pink Lady with Hart County Hospital. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, the Evangelon Sunday School Class and participated on the Cooking Teams.

Survivors include one son: John A. Rice, Jr. (Connie) of Hartwell; one daughter: Marsha Freeman (Larry) of Smyrna; three grandchildren: Chelsea McKelvey, Brittany Freeman, Katie Wasserman; two great-grandchildren: Julia and Ellie; and one sister: Doris Thomason of Dewy Rose. Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: John A. Rice, Sr. and one sister: Janie Bradford.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 3, 2017, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Carter Tucker and Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating.Entombment will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.The family is at the home of John and Connie Rice, 160 Red Fox Run, Hartwell, GA.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, East 81 Howell St. Hartwell, GA 30643.
