Nelson James Bennett, age 79, of the Gumlog Community, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024 at his home.

Born March 10, 1945, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Hubert Henry Bennett and Earlene Doris Williams Bennett. He was a skilled carpenter and building contractor, having constructed many houses, laid much brick, and custom-built cabinets in many parts of the country. He was passionate about bluegrass music and played the Dobro guitar expertly. He loved to rebuild Chevy trucks and make furniture. Nelson found comfort and solace in his Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Kaye Bennett; children, Dennis Bennett, Cindy (Dale) Bennett Simpson, Kristie Bennett, and Adam Bennett; sister: Shirleen McGee; grandchildren, Hannah Bennett, Damian Bennett, Jared Saylors, and Joselyn Smiley; and eight great-grandchildren.

Nelson was cremated in accordance with his request. The family will hold a private celebration of his life.
