Mrs. Sarah Opal Herndon, 100, of Carolina Street, Hartwell, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center in Lavonia.

Born on January 16, 1913 in Dewy Rose, GA, she was the daughter of the late Olden O. Hewell and Josie Adams Hewell.She was a retired bank teller for C & S Bank, a former member of several bridge clubs, and a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Hewell Herndon and his wife Shirley of Marietta, GA; three grandchildren: Kathy Herndon, Karen Price, Kim Hilley; and three great-grandchildren: Brandi Price, Taylor Price, and Dakota Price.Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pete Herndon.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.The family is at their respective homes.In lieu of flowers, special memorials may be made to Hartwell First Baptist Church, 81 E. Howell Street, Hartwell, GA30643.
