Obituary
Ophelia "Ophie" Lorene Brown Peek was born in Hartwell, GA on July 17, 1922 to the late Byrd Clifford Brown and Edna Irene Gunter Brown. She entered Heaven's Gates Triumphant September 23, 2014. She was 92.
Ophelia loved Jesus and exemplified His love by being His hands for the sick and hurting as well as those who were celebrating life's milestones. Her unwavering participation in Christian community, her humility, generosity, kindness and hospitality can only be described as gifts from the Holy Spirit.
She graduated from Hartwell High School in Hartwell, GA. and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. During World War II she worked at Consolidated and Bell Aircraft in Marietta, GA. and at Western Union in Atlanta, GA. She retired from both W.T. Grant and Belk's Department Store.
In addition to being around her large and devoted family, some of the things Ophelia loved were listening to Billy Graham, being an Atlanta Braves baseball fan, enjoying cantaloupe, watching Nancy Grace and Lawrence Welk on television, crocheting and planting beautiful flower beds.
Ophelia was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, John Lemuel Peek; four sisters and two brothers: Annie Lou Holt, Robert Lee Brown, Ruby Nell Barger, Daisy Madeleine Vickery, William Cranfill Brown and Barbara Jean Dickson.
She is survived by her precious sister, Virginia Brown Majeski and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her beloved children, Jeanne Peek Miller, Dale John Peek, Shirley Peek Graham and Timothy Ray Peek, a daughter-in-law, Helen Ingebritsen Peek, as well as eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Strickland Funeral Home, 305 Cleveland Avenue, Hartwell, GA 30643. A funeral celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Sardis Baptist Church, 4359 Anderson Highway - Hartwell, GA 30643.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations made payable to Sardis Baptist Church directing the funds in honor of Ophelia Peek to the "Family Life Center" on the memo line.
