Mr. James Owen Blakely, age 73, of Martin, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia.
Born December 9, 1941, in Hart County, he was the son of the late James Lewis Blakely and Ella Elizabeth Brown. He was raised in the home of his grandparents, Kay and Birdie Blakely.
He is survived by his son: Lewis Blakely; daughter: Lacy Blakely; granddaughters: Raven and Briona Dean; and sister: Ruth Harvey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Harold and John Blakely.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Gettis Allen officiating. Mr. Blakely will be cremated in accordance with his request. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. At other times, the family will be at the home of Ruth and Doug Harvey. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.com).
