Mr. Owen W. Sanders, age 84 of 80 Woodlake Dr., Hartwell, Ga., died Wednesday, December 20 at Hospice House, Anderson SC

Born February 1, 1922 in Hartwell, Ga., he was the son of the late Meade Sanders and Rachel Scott Sanders. He was a retired supervisor with the City of Hartwell Sanitation Department and retired from Hartwell Company as a Security Guard. He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and the McDoyle Sunday School Class. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, where he received the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.

He is survived by: son, Owen William "Bill" Sanders, Jr., and his wife Jane of Hartwell, GA; Brothers, Leon Sanders of Toccoa, GA, and Howard Sanders of Hartwell, GA; A grandson, Jim Sanders and his wife Lynn and great granddaughter, Sherry Greenway also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eula Vickery Sanders, and two sisters, Myra Sanders and Frances Ginn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home-Hartwell. Rev. Joe Black and Rev. Frank Sailers will officiate. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
