Mrs. Patsy Marie Sanders (née Haygood), 77, of Hartwell, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 8, 1949, in Anderson, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lam William Haygood and Myrtice Bell White Haygood. Patsy was a devoted homemaker who found joy in sewing, crocheting, and cooking. Her family frequently requested her homemade spaghetti and chocolate cake, two dishes that became cherished favorites at family gatherings. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a woman of deep faith who believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer.

She is survived by her two daughters, Pamela Emmons (Phil) of Hartwell and Tamela Dixon (Mark) of Chesapeake, Virginia; her two brothers, Ray Haygood and Jimmy Haygood, both of Hartwell; and the lights of her life, her five grandchildren: Andrew Emmons (Thomas), Alex Emmons (Lauren), Aaron Emmons, Corey Dixon, and Sarah Hagwood (Jeremy). She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Landon, Conner, Lilly, Brayden, and Kinlee Emmons, and Marin and Brody Hagwood.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Milton Sanders.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. At other times, the family will be at their respective homes.

A private family graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

A special thank you to the Affinis Hospice Teams of Gainesville & Athens: Michelle, Catherine, Jenifer, Teri, Dawn, Melissa, Holly, Romie, and Chaplains Lane & Sohn Mark. Your great care and kindness will never be forgotten. Our mother loved each and every one of you!
