Mrs. Pauline Sarah Thomas Powers, age 81, of Lavonia, died Monday, May 30, 2016 at Habersham Medical Center.
Born February 8, 1935, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Jones and Rudell Little Thomas. She retired from Cobb Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant after 18 years of service. She was a member of the Lavonia Garden Club and the Lavonia First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Owen Powers; sisters: Faye Edmonds, Frances Stancil, Gathell Carnes, Linda Brannen, and Shirley Brown; and brothers: Charles Thomas, William Thomas, and Joe Thomas.
She is survived by her daughters: Wanda Teat (Bob) of Clayton, Vicki Batley (Andy) of Spanish Fort, AL, Sandra Culpepper (Mike) of Clarkesville, Melody Powers of Carnesville, Beth Sosby (Kevin) of Martin, RaDonna Powers of Toccoa, and Jenny Swindle of Baldwin; sister: Betty Jean Hart of Greer, SC; grandchildren: Dr. Jay Culpepper (Erica), Jenna Benge (Dustin), Amanda Williams, Ashley Allen (Daniel), Parker Sosby, T. J. Sosby, and Courtney Swindle; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours, the family will be at their respective homes.
