Mrs. Peggy Gaines Bruce, age 91, of Lavonia, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at Young at Heart Personal Care Home.
Born March 15, 1927, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Lurline (Beasley) Gaines. She was a graduate of the Lavonia High School and Atlanta Business School. She retired from Coats & Clark. Mrs. Bruce was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Beverly and Jeff Thompson, and grandchildren: Lindsay & Matthew Riden, Cliff Thompson, and Clay Bruce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle C. Bruce, and her son, Doyle C. "Chip" Bruce, Jr.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Lavonia United Methodist Church with Rev. Courtney Umbehant officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Lavonia United Methodist Church, P.O.
