Mr. Philip J. Monti, 83, of Dunwoody GA formerly of Hartwell, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023 at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers FL.
Born on June 28, 1939 in Syracuse NY, he was the son of the late Philip Aldo Monti and Lydia Musilli Monti. Mr. Monti lived in Skaneateles, NY for many years, where he began to form his love for living on the lake. He moved to and lived in Hartwell for 35 years where he started Monti Contracting. He built and designed beautiful homes on Lake Hartwell. Mr. Monti was an active member at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, a 4 th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion Post #109, New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, and served as a secretary for the Fraternal Order of Police for over 25 years.
In the police department, Philip was awarded several accommodations, and he started a Crisis Intervention Program for the City of Syracuse, which was used as a blueprint for many other police departments in the country. During that time, Mr. Monti co-authored three books on police procedure, and he lectured at police departments and colleges throughout the US. He was also a guest professor at Lemoyne and Syracuse University.
Mr. Monti is survived by his wife: Carmelita Latone Monti; three daughters: Mary Ann Erwin (William Caskin) of Tyrone GA, Lorraine Draghi (Gary) of Massapequa NY and Jacqueline Rushworth (Edward) of Peachtree Corners NY; a brother: Thomas A. Monti (Deborah) of Medfield MA; a sister: Clara M. Monti of Ocala FL; 6 grandchildren: Jessica Archer (Austin), Scott Erwin, Amanda Draghi, Nicole Draghi, Alexa Rushworth and Chelsea Cobb (Avery) and a great-grandchild: Dean Cobb.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at 5:00 p.m. His ashes will be buried Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Memorial Garden with Military Honors.
